Multi-objective optimisation of MOF-801 adsorbent packed into copper foamed bed for cooling and water desalination systems

Recently, there have been several endeavours to enhance the performance of adsorption systems for cooling cum desalination by developing new materials and adsorbent bed designs. Therefore, this article contributes field computationally studying utilisation state-of-the-art MOF-801 packed into emerging copper-foamed heat exchanger benchmarking its against that utilising silica gel baseline adsorbent. A multi-objective global optimisation aimed simultaneously at best coefficient performance, specific power, clean water productivity was undertaken. The built on insights from a broad parametric study geometric operating conditions. Given novelty design combination, one-dimensional model developed imitate transfer in coupled with previously validated empirical lumped analytical system using MATLAB platform. Using copper foam significantly enhanced effective thermal bed, improving overall under different Furthermore, MOF-801-based outperformed SG-based 38%, as former yielded 29.7 m3/(ton.day), while latter 21.5 m3/(ton.day). Besides, showed power 830.8 W/kg compared 611.5 gel-based system. However, capacity per unit volume determined systems’ form factor, respectively higher 9.6% 20.2% than those system, stemming low packing density MOF-801.
